The JaboG 32 was activated on 22.07.1958 and first flew the Republic F-84 F. Based at Lechfeld the wing flew 7 years with this aircraft before in 1965 the F-104 G Starfighter was introduced. Between 1965 and 1984 the Starfighters made more than 200.000 flight hours. In 1980 Lechfeld become homebase for the new Eloka-Training Aircraft, the HFB-320 ECM. With this aircraft the new 3.rd Squadron was activated on 01.04.1980. In 1984 the wing got his first Tornado IDS and with this aircraft the JaboG 32 was the first German Wing to participate at an Red Flag Excercise in the USA. In 1991 the 1st Squadron changed from the bombing-role with the Tornado IDS to the electronic- combat role with the Tornado ECR. Like the JaboG 38 the JaboG 32 should work as a mixed unit (ECR and IDS) but in 1994 the Ministery of Defence ordered all Tornado ECR to Lechfeld. So the JaboG 32 was build up as an sole ECR-Wing while the JaboG 38, from where the Tornado ECR came, become a real Fighterbomber Wing and got all the Tornado IDS from JaboG 32. As the wing was completely combat-ready with the Tornado ECR, the 3.rd Squadron and their HFB-320 ECM were deactivated. This special role in military aviation forced the JaboG 32 to flew the first combat missions of German Aircrafts after WW II during the Kosovo-Crisis under NATO-Command. |
