History : |
|
The building-up of the JaboG 34 began at Faßberg on 29.11.1958 and the first aircraft were the
Republic F-84 F Thunderstreak. In April 1959 the wing moved to it´s new homebase at Memmingen, where it was officially activated in May 1959. In June 1964 the JaboG 34 began with the introdution of the F-104 G Starfighter and in May 1966 the last Republic F-84 F was flown out. After more than 240.000 flying hours with the F-104 G Starfighter the changing to the last aircraft in the history of this wing , the Panavia Tornado, started in 1987. On the 08.05.1992 the wing got the official name "Allgäu",named after the countryside it was based. But the great changings which began with the fall of the Wall between the two German countries and the following changes of the military threat lead to the deactivation of this wing in Autumn 2002. |
