History : |

The FFS "S" was disbanded in 1978, during a great reorganization within the Air Transport Command.
The aircraft of this unit were parked at Wunstorf AFB and it lasts until Oktober 1978 when the plans to build up a new Transport Wing were ready for realisation. With the Transall´s of former FFS "S", the LTG 62, which was disbanded in 1971, was build up again. This new Wing has also the task to train new Transport Pilots for the German Air Force. In 1993, as a result of the great changings after the German Reunification, the Transport Group of the LTG 65 was integrated in this Wing. With this integration the Wing got some Mil Mi-8 helicopter from the former NVA. But already in 1984 this aircraft type was phased out. After the HTG 64 was disbanded in 1994 the helicopters were integrated in this Wing, but the aircraft stayed at Ahlhorn AFB. In 1996 Ahlhorn was completely closed and the helicopters were moved to Diepholz (Training Group) and Holzdorf (Transport Group). |
