History : |
|
Two of the three Luftrettungs- and Verbindungstaffeln of the Luftwaffe were integrated in the HTG 64,
which was officially activated on 01.10.1966 at Penzing. In February 1968 the new Bell UH-1 D was introduced. In January 1968 the 3rd Luftrettungs- und Verbindungsstaffel at Ahlhorn was put under the command of HTG 64 and at the end of 1968 the 4th Squadron , based at Diepholz was also integrated and both together build the II.Group of HTG 64. In 1971 the LTG 62 was disbanded and Ahlhorn became the new homebase of the HTG 64. All Squadrons moved to Ahlhorn, only the 1st. Squadron stayed at Penzing. In 1974 the HFSLw at Faßberg was disbanded and the training was split between Fort Rucker and the HTG 64. So the HTG 64 has now 5 fully equipped Squadrons with more than 100 Bell UH-1 D. In 1979 the 1st Squadron which was based in Penzing was put under the command of the LTG 61, and another Squadron was disbanded, so the Wing was reduced to 3 Squadrons. In 1994 the HTG 64 was disbanded and the helicopters were split between LTG 62 and LTG 63, which now became a third Squadron. |
