On 10.06.1956 the FFS "S" was activated as an Pilotschool for Transportaircrafts and
Helicopters. The second task of this unit should be to work as an normal Transport Wing in case
of Emergency. The frist aircrafts used by this school were Noratlas, Pembroke, L-18 und Do 27, for Helicopter-Training the Bell 47 and the Vertol H-21 were used. Because of the busy work on this small airbase, the primary flying instruction with the Do 27 (to Friedrichshafen) and the L-18 (to Mengen) was dislocated. With this Disloaction the Wing was splitted in three Groups : Group A for single motor aircrafts Group B or multi motor aircrafts Group C for helicopter-training As the plans for building up the FBW 34 at Memmingen grow up in 1957, the Group B was moved temporarely to Neubiberg and in 1958 to Wunstorf . This splitting of the unit lasted not very long, because in 1959 he Group A moved to Diepholz and the Group C to Fassberg. In 1963 the primary flying instruction was combined with the Lufthansa, so the Group A was disbanded. In 1967 the Group C changed his name to HFSLw and in 1975 it was integrated in the HTG 64. 1978 the FFS "S" was officially disbanded, but the aircrafts were parked at Wunstorf until on end of 1979 the new LTG 62 was activated. |
